MHC Hosts Barbara Rector
"Taste of AIA" Workshop
May 2008  

The Medicine Horse Center is honored to host Barbara Rector at our facility in beautiful Durango, CO for "A Taste of Adventures in Awareness" short course in May 2008.

This 3-day course is the basic introduction to the AIA principles, theory and practice. Emphasis is on the AIA Safety Agreement. Areas of study are: safety agreement, centering, mutual choosing inner-active, heart scanning process, Con Su Permiso, imaginary lead line, elementary equine physiology and psychology as metaphor for life skills and round ring congruent message sending. The cost is $600/pp and includes a light dinner on Day 1 and lunch on Day 2 and 3.


Barbara co-founded both TROT (Therapeutic Riding of Tucson, Inc.) and EFMHA (Equine Facilitated Mental Health Association) and has over 30 years in the sharing horses with people for their mutual benefit - mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. She has traveled the world training the trainers in her Adventures In Awareness process for exploring the heart of horse and human. This course is especially beneficial to individuals working in the Therapeutic Riding and Equine Experiential Learning fields and is suitable for anyone who desires to know themselves and others through the heart lens of a horse.

"The Reunion of the JS Trio" featuring Joyce Simpson

We are very excited to present the return of Joyce Simpson of Las Vegas, NV (formerly Mancos, CO) and the "Reunion of the JS Trio" including Jeff Solon and Jeff Sweet. Joyce Simpson is a four-octave jazz vocalist with an onstage persona often compared to vintage Sarah, Billie, and Dinah. Her style is simple, yet elegant; honest and soulful.

Medicine Horse will be featured on "Eye on Durango", a half hour talk show on Durango Community Access Television. The show will air everyday from Aug. 30 - Sept. 5th at 7am and 7pm. Check us out!

Road Apple Bingo

Sat. July 22nd 10am-12pm in the Wal-Mart parking lot in Durango.

576 numbered squares in a grid are available for purchase. The enclosed numbered grid will be marked in the Durango Wal-Mart parking lot. Medicine Horse will release one of our Therapy Horses onto the grid. The winner of the $1,000 Grand Prize will be the square in which he decides to lay his "road apple"! 
 
Road Apple Bingo was a great success. Over 350 tickets were sold!
 
A BIG Thank You to Wal*Mart, who donated $1,000 to the event for the winning square!
 
Also a thank you to the Excel School Steel Drum Band for providing some great music for our event.

The only pain-in-the-butt (literally) was that JJ took OVER 2 HOURS TO POOP!! We've got some pretty funny pictures to show what we attempted to get him "moving".
