The Medicine Horse Center is funded by grants and private monetary/in-kind donations. In order to continue to provide service for our community, we need your help.
You can support the Medicine Horse Center in the following ways:
The Medicine Horse Center has had a wonderful year and thanks to generous donations and grants from the community, we were able to offer services to 132 clients last year! The word is out about Medicine Horse and we have more clients requesting services this year than we are able to fund. Our mission is: Horses and humans working together to foster healthier communities and our motto is: no student will be turned away because of inability to pay! The only way we are able to do this is through generous donations from people like you.
The Medicine Horse Center's family of programs offer a platform for healing by providing therapeutic, psychological and developmental assistance to both children and adults with varying degrees of abilities. Medicine Horse has developed from a therapeutic riding center serving a handful of clients, into a growing equine-assisted therapy center, offering the following services:
- Therapeutic Riding
- Equine Assisted Psychotherapy
- Equine Experiential Learning
- Elder Programs
- Life Enhancement and Development
- Equine Rehabilitation

If you are interested in donating or leasing your equine friend to the Medicine Horse Center, please read the following about "What Makes a Perfect Therapy Horse".
The Perfect Therapy Horse should:
- Be responsive to voice commands
- Under saddle, work three basic gaits in bothdirections, have the ability to lengthen and shorten stride at all gaits,and will work well in a group or individually.
- Be size-appropriate for program needs. Most TherapyHorses are between 14hh-15hh, although larger horses are required forlarge/tall riders. To date, our largest horse is 16hh.
- No younger than 5 years of age. Prospects forstability, soundness and longevity are best if the horse is between 8 and16 years. In some cases (where a horse enjoys good health/soundness)horses can be accepted in their 20+ years.
- Have varied experiences in their background, such asschooling, show and trail. These horses are more likely to accept newexperiences.
